Some Much Food, So Little Time

Sorry about not posting!!!

I've eaten a lot place since I lasted posted. I can take both Speed Dog and Hamersley's Bistro off the list of places to try. Both delicious!

For a conference at work I helped put together a list of restaurants in the area. Discovered that of the 71 places, I'd been to 66. Only 5 left to go!

In Tibet, the beef is better

Last night, Ann and I had dinner with our friends Adam and Mary at Rangzen Tibetan Restaurant in Cambridge's Central Square. The food was quite good, if a bit pricey. All of the beef dishes were superior to the chicken or vegetarian ones. Perhaps we should have heeded the advice of our waiter who said that chicken wasn't very traditional in Tibetan cuisine. We ordered:Handmade vegetable dumplings filled with cabbage, spinach, tofu, garlic & ginger. Served with a small bowl of soybean soup or lentil soup.
- LANGSHA MOMO (1/2 order, steamed)
Handmade minced beef dumplings mixed with spinach, cabbage, ginger, garlic & cilantro.
Handmade chicken dumplings filled with minced chicken, spinach, cabbage, ginger & garlic.
Beef with bean thread noodles cooked with black mushroom & potato, ginger and garlic
Chicken cut into pieces cooked with potatoes, tomato, onion, turmeric powder, cumin, curry & herbs
- In addition, we had some brown rice and also white rice. I also had a mango lassi. (Couldn't resist!)

Bertucci's Express Lunch Pasta

Wow... time flies when you aren't posting. I had lunch today with Victor at Bertucci's. I had the mediocre rigatoni abruzzi: Roasted peppers and sweet Italian sausage in a mildly spicy plum tomato sauce. I knew it was mistake, but ordered it anyways. I don't think I've ever been satisfied with their pasta. I did my best to convince the waiter to have the ritatoni baked in the clay oven. He would have none of it. Victor had the lasagna and seemed to enjoy it. Probably the best part of the meal is salad and extra hot rolls that come free with lunch. Yummy steaming rolls dipped in olive oil, cheese, and spices.

Busy Sunday

On Sunday, I was coordinating our Welcome Lunch for new people to the Vineyard. The food was burritos from Anna's Taqueria. I had half a steak burrito, but was too distracted talking to people to eat more. My favorite meal from Anna's is usually the quesadia, half chicken/half veggie. (Hint: tell them exactly which veggies you want!) Anna's awesome value which makes them one of Boston's perenial best-bangs-for-your-buck according to Zagat.

Saturday BBQ

Saturday night after the class, Ann and I debriefed for a couple hours... and then realized we were extremely hungry. We had a car on loan, so we headed to Arlington to get some downhome bbq at Blue Ribbon BBQ. We split the 1/2 Slab Platter with mashed potatoes and black-eyed corn. I was pleased that we were able to get a seat, as well as find easy parking in the Stop&Shop Supermarket across the street. Perfect end to the meal was the cornbread pudding - vanilla custard, maple syrup, and cornbread. What a yummy surprise!

Good Food Cafe

Lunch Saturday at the "Building the Multiethnic Church Class" was from Good Food Cafe. I had the filling, if a bit messy, Chicken Breast and Avocado with pesto, tomato and swiss. For refreshment, I enjoyed a  Cranberry Lime Polar Seltzer. I ended with a quite large chocolate chip cookie. I like Good Food Cafe. It is a local sandwich shop with a spacious interior where the owner Jim is always there and makes the catering deliveries himself. Bakun Approved!

Greek!

On Friday night and Saturday Ann and I participated in a workshop at our church on multiethnicity. It was a powerful time, but that's not the point of this post. Ann brought us dinner from our favorite local Greek restaurant, Greek Corner Restaurant. I had the fabulous Corner's Special Gyro: "ground beef and lamb seasoned with herbs and spices. Served in hot pita bread with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, parsley and cucumber yogurt sauce." I made it combo which included a Greek salad. Ann even surprised me with a Diet Coke. (sorry Mom, sometimes you need a little artificial sweetener!)

Friday Morning Sugar & Fat Pick Me-Up

Being a Friday, I felt my co-workers and I needed an extra kick this frigid morning. I brought in a dozen donuts from Verna's Coffee and Donut Shop. My favorite is their honey dipped. Quite nice, but doesn't compare to Lyndell’s Bakery. Mmmmm... I could go for one of Lyndell's jelly filled donuts right now. Good thing for my health that Lyndell's is a trek from my place.

Eggplant Parm Panini

Enjoyed a great panini of the day from Pemberton Farms in Cambridge for lunch today. Nice scala bread, eggplant parm, and just a tad of homemade marinara sauce. I added fresh tomatoes and had it pressed. Quite yummy!

Welcome!

I finally decided to start a blog. The initial decision was on what to call it. Ann suggested "Hungry Bakun." As can be my far too common response to Ann's brilliant idea, I was skeptical. My mistake, now rectified with this new blog "Hungry Bakun."

The plan is to chronicle my food adventures, plus anything else that suits my fancy. Enjoy!
